Hi. I’m looking for some pointers towards finding the source of an issue with a PC I recently built for a friend.

The system specs are:

8G Corsair Vengeance LPX 2400
MSI GTX 1660 VENTUS XS 6G
Aerocool Cylon PSU 700w
AMD Ryzen 3 3100 AM4 CPU
Gigabyte B550M S2H Motherboard
1 TB Sandisk SSD
1 TB Samsung HDD
Generic case with 3 RGB front panel fans.
Windows 10 Home

(Please don’t criticize my component selection. I was on a budget and I was also limited due to lack of choice as components have been difficult to source of late.)

All parts are new apart from the HDD, which is a few years old but it was thoroughly tested as working prior to installation and again after installation.

The system was also thoroughly tested and benchmarked after installation and I was pleased with the results.

So the issue with the system is this. After working well for the first several weeks of use, the case RGB has begun to randomly turn off without warning, followed immediately by the HDD unmounting and remaining inaccessible. This occurs about once every one to two days. A reboot brings the system back online and it works problem free until the issue reoccurs a day or two later.

My suspicion at this point is some kind off power management issue but I’m unsure as to what might have triggered it. (If it is indeed a power issue.)

I don’t have access to the PC right now, I am picking it up for testing in the next few days. If anyone has any thoughts on what might be causing the problem, I look forward to your comments and advise.

Thanks for any help offered.

Look in Reliability History and Event Viewer.

Determine if Windows captured any error codes, warnings, or even informational events related to the described problems.

Check Task Manager - Startup for unexpected or unexplained apps running in the background.

Also look in Task Scheduler - could be something being triggered therein.
