RGB Strips compatible?

I bought a strip of rgb that works with aura sync, but upon further research it seems i need a motherboard that has an rgb header? I have an msi 970 gaming motherboard, can i still use the software to control the rgb? I want to sync it with my 1050ti strix or at least have it red.
