My PII 300MHz sometimes sounds a bit like that old cereal.

Silence for days, and then crackle, crackle, crackle.

This has been on going for weeks, so I'm not too worried....Honest!

As far as I can tell, it seems to be coming from the PSU/Fan area.

I've had the whole thing apart for a clean, but it made no difference.

Could it be dust in the power cable socket?

Open to suggestions...

Maybe it's the dust INSIDE the power supply itself.

If giving it a thump is refering to the psu, try taking it outside ad blowing it out with a can of compressed air. Back off and watch the dust fly.

Or you can open up the power supply casing, and blowing at it like that, which would probably be more effective.

I'm building a BX system, and the case I got didn't have the 300W PSU I asked for, so I'll take the new PSU out of that and replace the entire PSU.

That should fix it. Cheers for the help!

BX on the CHEAP-I just built one of those Blaster PC's up, it works great-2.5% less performance than my CUSL2 had, which, for the price, is a great value. I can probably attribut the slight loss in performance to the sound system, since SB Live normally uses more processor power than the Vortex2 card I used on the CUSL2.
