[citation][nom]mcd023[/nom]I don't think that the reaction to her hobby is a political one, but rather generations older than those involved in gaming see it as a waste of time. They were probably thinking, "How can anyone want this time waster in government?" (gov't jokes aside) What they didn't expect was a bunch of ppl, probably early-mid 30's and under, saying, "Yes, yes we do."btw, toms, is it possible to make the comment block restore my post if I hit submit and I'm not signed in?[/citation]

old folks call it a waste of time. we call it a hobby.

You know what unhealthy hobby? its those miniature trains people build in their basement, those people are sick they even put on engineer's cloths when they do it, thinking they are actual engineers. It is so sick I tells ya.

As long as she wasn't elected mainly because of her WOW supporters alone. If things like intelligence, personality, credibility, and substance weren't the basis for electing her then I have nothing further to say on what those in that district were thinking. I'm an avid gamer myself, but if I were to run, don't elect me based only on the fact you play games too but rather that I'd be the best fit for the job!

[citation][nom]jellico[/nom]Honestly, the Democrats are no more a friend to gamers than the Republicans. I really wish we could break the stranglehold these two parties have on American politics and get something going with the Libertarians.[/citation]

Only thing the Libertarians need to be taken seriously is a billion dollars; money talks in this two party system.

Oh you mean the party of let people die who are sick and poor.

No, thanks, to the Libertarians.

Sad thing about it --- a high percentage of that Republican base likely sees playing WoW akin to Satan Worship.

And this is in Maine, not a big hot spot for those progressive lefty commie socialist types.

Maine has been a "blue" state for Decades. 2010 was the anomaly, but the Dems have pretty much controlled state government for 40 years, even the republicans who have gotten into office have often been labeled RINOs.

As for the Republican WoW comment, I disagree, I know many people of all political beliefs that play WOW and other games. Sometimes it is the one thing we can agree on as a whole!

Nice appeal to emotion but it's more like: the party that lowers taxes to the point where charity can overcome garbage like FEMA and the TARP and the moral hazard created by suck policies/institutions because there is NOTHING compassionate about getting a government with guns and badges to take from one set of people and give to another. That is not general welfare. If you want to take the moral high ground you must first get out of your ivory tower and actually do something compassionate. To be clear filling in the bubble next to the name of a dictator that promises to give poor people breadcrumbs doesn't count.

I don't know anything about the candidates themselves, and it's not my state. However, not everyone wants to be themselves or surround themselves with the stresses of reality while online. I have never understood why that would be something to build a political campaign around. Lots of wasted money in my opinion.

It will be nice when the old Republicans die off and the young Republicans take over and get the party back on track.

That said, I could never trust an Orc Politician- they're just so ugly.

for next elections, whoever decides to bash a candidate because he/she is a gamer better think alot before doing it. they need to realize that the generation that grew up with the SNES and PS1/N64(these 3 consoles that made gaming popularity skyrocket) are likely to be voting next elections. bashing games is not going to help this rapidly growing number of voters that like games.

Lvl 68? She's one of those people who play an MMO and don't reach max level.

I would vote against her just on those grounds.

What does that take me? A couple weeks if I am taking it easy?

I don't play MMOs anymore, but I always hated that "crowd" of people who never raided and just leveled.

Forget her party affiliation...this is just lulzy. So she enjoys a bit of gaming, who cares? As others have said: she is only level 68, so she doesn't play all that seriously. I really doubt WoW will affect her performance in office. Her avatar might get ganked alot, but that's another story. Besides, to some WoW is less of a game and more of a social network. Let her have some fun in her free time. At least she isn't RL partying with taxpayer money.

Of course my first thoughts on this article were: Why WoW? Why is it always WoW? There are much better MMOs out there! D:
