Should I buy a 1060 or wait for 1150/1160 ? 'cause I'll be having my holidays this June and Julu so I thought buy a new GPU, I can afford an 1060 nothing more, so shlould I go ahead or wait ? And will the waiting be worth it ?

Solution

Go with the MSI Dual Fan card. Founders' Edition is really not a practical choice in most scenarios, since...

Wait and see what happens. Prices are coming down, slowly, but it's getting there. Couple of months ago a gtx1060/6 was close to $400, right now you can get some gtx1070 right at $399.

You'll find that when the 1160 starts getting close to release, many shops will put their 1060 on sale, to make room for inventory. That and nobody will buy a 1060 at $300 if the 1160 is anywhere close in price. There's also the Rx 580 and Vega 56 to consider, as well as the gtx1070/ti which by then will also have its 1170 version as the gtx1180 will be the first gpu released, followed by the 1160/1170, further driving prices lower temporarily.

Right, 'cause a 1060 is around Rs.24,000 in my country so thats around $360 and thats the cheaptest, and the 1070 is around $485 and the max I can spend on a GPU right now is $380 ( in my country of course ).

The 1060 is good for 1080p gaming and I could actually go buy it next month right after my finals, but then if I wait and the GPU (1160/1150) aren't affordable I'd have just wasted 2 months, and I'm in serious need of an upgrade, stuck with a GT 610.

You can wait for the price to drop on them 1060's, but waiting for next gen feels like a waste IMO. There are rumors that they'll just be a refresh with minor increase in performance, also the 1160 might not come in July at all - only the higher end models will be released first, or so I have heard.

If you have a need now, buy now.
If you wait for the next best thing, you will wait forever.

New products will be sold for what the traffic will bear.
The new top cards will be very expensive.
Yes, some retailers will want to sell old stock to clear inventory.
That is one plus for waiting.

Today, you might look at used, but beware of old mining cards for sale.
They will be cheap but have been overworked.

Ykw, I'll just buy it, 1060 is pretty good, I'll just pair it with an i5-7400.

I'll just buy a 1060 FE from nvidia store. I've been saving and waiting for 3 years, can't risk it. Plus I feel the 1060 pretty decent for 1080p so I should be fine.

Way I see it, if you upgrade every 1-2 year, then it's not worth waiting. If you upgrade every 3+ years, then yes you absolutely should wait. It's less than 2 months til July, compared to the 3+ years you'll be stuck with whatever card you buy. See what the next gen brings to the table first, then make a better-informed decision about whether to go ahead and buy the current gen Pascal GPU, or wait a little more for a Volta GPU in your target price range.

The problem right now is there's an information vacuum. Nvidia doesn't want to tip their hand too early lest they cannibalize sales of their current gen GPUs. If this were going to continue for a while, then I'd say buy now. But two months? Just wait it out unless you absolutely need a GPU this week. Then you can make an informed decision instead of guessing like everyone is now. GPU prices seem to be dropping now, so you're not risking anything by waiting, just giving up 2 months of playing with a new GPU.

You'd be giving up silence of the PC, and you will also get higher temps with the Founders' Edition. If that sounds like a good bargain for its lower price, then you can go with it, but usually an aftermarket card is recommended for a cool and quiet build. Of course, the 1060 is a lower-power card, so perhaps a blower-style cooler will still suffice. Either way, just know that the cooler is not as good as something like a Zotac Mini card.

MSI GTX 1060 6gb OC Dual Fan or FE ? They both cost the same here.

But is it necessary to pick a solution :p ? I mean like all of you were very very helpful and thank you for that.

The MSI has higher everything. Higher performance, higher OC ability, higher cooling capacity. And while the blower style gpus are generally notoriously louder, in the 1060 it's remarkably quiet. Not as quiet as the MSI, which is one of the quietest there is.

Considering your location, I'd advise you to weigh the negatives heavily. If your pc sees high ambient temps, go with the blower. If the pc has good temps and good airflow, go with the MSI. Last thing you want to do in a hot temp case is add heat.

Go with the MSI Dual Fan card. Founders' Edition is really not a practical choice in most scenarios, since the aftermarket cards are just simply better. The only time you go with FE card is if you have no airflow in the build, i.e., no case fans. In that case, the blower-style cooler is complete in itself.

Hey I was also considering the 1060 Fe from Nvidia store but it got out of stock yesterday and now I'm stuck with only one option that is inno 3d for around same price.
From where did u get the msi card and for what price?

As long as any other brand. They either use a custom pcb, or a nvidia one with different shroud, just like most others.

Inno3d, like PNY or Zotac or Galax or any of the other 2nd tier companies just don't have the resources to offer a world wide market, competing against companies like msi or asus or gigabyte. Those 1st tier companies just got lucky and got in a long time ago, when the pc component market was really opening up, starting out building motherboards for companies like HP and Compaq and IBM. Inno3d is just one of the relatively new kids on the block.

I couldn't find out any reviews on inno 3d's 1060 that's why I was worried, also I've heard that they use pcb from Fe cards.
I've had very good experiences with other brands,my first card xfx hd series works fine even to this day,I just hope this one would too.
I really appreciate your help.
