Rise of the Tomb Raider [PC] System Requirements

My ASUS G73JH is capable of playing the original 2013 reboot of Tomb Raider on medium settings, everything is set to normal.
no TressFX (Looks ugly and out-of-place to me anyway, as only Lara has it, everyone else is plain.)
4x Anisotropic
Anti-Aliasing FXAA
Post Processing
High Precision
Tessellation
1280 x 720 Resolution

I've ran the benchmark and at lowest I get around 26-27 fps, at highest I get around 50-ish, on average, 40-ish.

I know the new game has not been released for the PC yet, but it is neigh, and system requirements have not been revealed yet. But judging from what I've seen, it looks pretty darn intensive.

My specs:

Intel Core i7 720QM Quad-Core 1.6 GHz up to 2.8 GHz (with one core)
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1 GB VRAM
8 GB DDR3 RAM
7200 RPM 500 GB HGST HDD (No I do not care for SSDs, speed improvement seems minimal for actual game performance, only seems good for loading screens. I have patience.)

Anyone think I could run the new game at low-medium settings? I typically only play at 720p anyway, I don't care if it's "Full HD"(1080p) or not. (Plus I'm used to vintage games, i.e. low-res, and DOS games.)

P.S. I commonly use Game-Debate to compare my specifications to game requirements, as well as to compare specifications of other components.

well gpu wise you are probably going to make the minimum req, not sure about the CPU though. theres no way to tell how cpu intensive the game will be, but judging by past console ports in recent years it will probably be pretty cpu hungry.

Thanks for the response. Just a little more information on the CPU. From what I remember reading before, with one core it can get to 2.8 GHz, with two about 2.4 GHz, with three about 2.2 GHz, with all four, 1.6-1.7 GHz. It's also hyper-threaded. I don't think the 2013 version of Tomb Raider makes use of all four cores, if it did, the fan would crank up,(The GPU certainly does though, I get about 80C on there.) I could also monitor it with task manager and CPU-Z to make certain.

It is a common misconception that if your CPU is not 100% capped during gameplay than it is surely not a bottleneck. It would be great if CPU optimization worked like that It would be that simple if the gpu workload was a single threaded process, in practice CPU bottlenecking has more to do with process scheduling and direct X APis.

I recently tested this personally on crysis 3 and my GTX 970, as I receieved my parts from different shops at different intervals I slapped it near my I5-750. Result was 40-70% CPU usage. Yet when I upgraded to the I7-6700k the frame rates almost doubled.

Hmm. What if I were to keep an eye on CPU-Z and its reported CPU frequency? Since I know the frequences of the cores in use, could this help me to tell if all cores are be used? i.e. 1.6-1.7 = 3-4 cores, 2.4 = 2, etc...

The official launch date for Rise of the Tomb Raider [PC] is January 28, and the system requirements have also been revealed.

PC Minimum Specifications:

Minimum OS: Windows 7 64bit
Processor: Intel Core i3-2100 or AMD equivalent
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 650 2GB or AMD HD7770 2GB
RAM: 6GB
HD Space: 25GB
DirectX: DirectX 11
Input: Mouse + Keyboard

Unfortunately it looks like the game requires 2 GB VRAM minimum. If this is really the case, then my Asus (Mobility Radeon HD5870 1 GB VRAM) probably can't handle it.

Doesn't look like my GPU will cut it sadly, but my CPU just might barely make it. I'm still hoping that if the settings are set uber low if I might be able to get by with 1 GB VRAM. And this also begs another question... Is there some sort of software that would allow you to reserve system RAM for the GPU to use? (Kind of like virtual VRAM.) And would it even be practical?

And do you think there's a possibility of getting around the 1 GB VRAM minimum if settings are as low as they get?

P.S. I don't care if I have to play at 1024 x 600 as long as I can at least play it at all.

sadly, I fear your going to have to upgrade that laptop to play. But yet, your i7-720QM is a chip from 2009. its 7 years old. You got a long life out of it, but its time to upgrade.

I'm still going to try to get a few more years worth of life out of this thing, I don't have the funds for a modern PC. Besides, it's more than good enough right now. I can still stream 1080p YouTube, and play a great deal of older games. I also have some old games I've never played before, so it'll still keep me occupied.

I haven't started playing Rise of the tomb raider yet because I don't have its latest version of it. In "Rise of The Tomb Raider" there are many opportunities to explore huge areas with full of mysteries. Just an update. I've been playing Rise of the Tomb Raider for a while now, and it seems to run decently on my G73JH, with the lowest settings and 1024 x 768, I get around average 15-26 FPS, sometimes up to 30, though I limit my FPS intentionally to 30 as I don't need an FPS higher than that.

Seems like this thing still has some life left in it for games, who says 6 year old tech is obsolete? My family typically keeps systems for 10 years or more, if it ain't broke, don't throw it out, and if it is, fix it.

I'm just used to old slow computers, and I've learned to have patience due to this, I love repairing and working with vintage PCs, I don't need 1080p, 60 FPS, and certainly not 4K, I'm good with 720p 30 FPS, it's also lighter on the system, thus less heat, and longer lifespan. I also occasionally play old games such as DOS, and I'm used to crappy graphics and low resolutions.

Now I do occasionally notice the lag, but most of the time, I get used to it and it doesn't really bother me. I don't even have an SSD, and load times don't bother me much, once again, old hard drives are slow, but I'm used to it, and it's nostalgic, when you hear the old disks starting up, the humble hum, and the crunching of the head. Though this is referring to vintage HDDs, but I'm just used to the speed.

And to be more accurate with my last FPS claim, it's typically around 20-27 FPS, sometimes it gets to 30, sometimes it drops to 15, but given the human eye can't see much more than 24 FPS, it's not that big of a deal, thus why 60 FPS is pointless for me, and it just creates bigger file sizes for encoded videos that I don't need.

Human eye is not that simple. Trust me for 2 whole years I used a bad laptop and got used to the lag. And after that when I finally got a new PC everything changed so much. Maybe you don't wanna admit that to yourself because you can't upgrade yet or something, in that case I am sorry to say this but if you played Rise of the Tomb Raider 1080p 60fps you would fall in love with it after your settings.
