Rising temps with a core contact

So I just bought A core contact cooler for my pII 945. it doesn't quite fit on my xfx 750a mobo the right way (ohh so close) but turned around it is fine (not the best , but oh well). Anyway when I first applied it using AS5, the temps were pretty good, idle at lowish 30'0 and load in the 40s. And I figured it will drop a few more degrees as the paste sets up.

It did drop a few degrees, but then yesterday the temps started rising so it idles now at low 40s, with load around mid 50's. So it went up. I don't remember changing everything, and I just cleaned out my dust filters. ambient case temp is around 23 on idle.

My core "temps" are very low, with mid 20's to mid high 30's on low. But these temps are whack.

I tried Overclocking the 945 (just to see) and at 3.5 (235 fsb) the temps got so high it crashed.

The fan has been on low this whole time, because of an annoying whine it makes at anything over that, but still the temps went up.

Any thoughts

(PS, I slightly scratched the edge of the heat sink base when trying to wedge it in the correct direction, I'm willing to smooth it out if you think it will help, but my main concern is that the temps went up, even when the weather temps went down)

Yeah it seems the whine has gotten a little bit worse. I was going to replace it anyway (so i could turn it up without having my dog run away). But I'll do it sooner than later now.

Thanks for the advice

I just had a though,

Even with the fan running at 1250 rpm (BIOS and Speedfan) are these temps still higher than they should be (idle at 40). I have 3 exhaust fans all one pushing about 40cfm the others a little less. I will replace the fan, I'm just wondering if these temps are high since I've heard such good things about the Core contact (Shadow)

keep in mind the cooler is backwards.

I'll give resetting the cooler a try.

have not tried with the house fan, put the fan is set up as a pull not a push (should have have made that clearer, sorry). and is pulling the air through the core contact and then pushing it to the exhaust fan, which is only a couple of inches away.

So i pulled it off, and put some new paste on, (I didn't smooth out the small scratches on the edges of the heat pipes though)

Now the temps are high 30's (idle) so better, I know I need A higher pressure fan which is hard since the cooler is the wrong way.

So here is the question, how do you feel about this so the cooler can be in the right direction

I have a silverstone sst-fp52 fan controller to help with noise.

or get a more 120x25mm fan and keep the thing the wrong way (maybe the 110cfm slipstream)

I would like to get a PWM fan though, what would you recommend (remember a 25mm or thicker one would have to have a good amount of airflow because the cooler is backward)

heres some I was thinking about

the delta's are expensive and loud, and the only other one that pushes a good amount of air is the Nexus. and what do you think about AC's PST

Just asking for opinions
thanks

Okay unless someone thinks smoothing out the small scratches on the edges of the heat sink base (can't feel them with your finger, can see them, and feel some if you lightly drag your nail across it but barely) is going to help I'm going to send it back to sunbeam (already sent the MIR in so can't sent it back to newegg).

With a cold ambient temp of 20 the cooler still idles at low 40 with all the fans turned on high (pretty darn loud), and loads mid 50's.

I'm going to send it back and put my old tx2 on which gave me better temps.
