[SOLVED] Rm850x (2018) vs rm850x (2021)

Hi there

I saw in toms hardware that rm850x from 2018 is way more silent than the New one even though it has a rifle bearing fan instead of mag lev. Should i get the 2018 model?? Any recommendations on this?

Ryzen 5600x with rx 6800xt MB.

I Just upgraded my rig with an MSI MPG A850GF but the psu is buzzing and making a coil whine. I ruled everything out by unplugging when my psu was out of my case so i could listen where the noise was coming from. It was humming and whining sadly. The wine was like a scratchy toned constant nagging sound.

Someone recommended me the thermaltake toughpower but this one seems even quiter 😱 i Just dont want annoying sounds 🙁

I have the Seasonic Focus Plus Gold (850w). Two of them actually. I never heard an annoying sound. Which based on your description is probably coil whine.

The 2018 RMx is one of the best made PSU or there. I got the Seasonic as it was also well reviewed. At the time the RMx was ridiculously expensive. As PSU prices went up during the previous crypto mining surge. The RMx were the first hit.

I read about that one too! But people were really stoked on this rmx. Then I really did have bad luck with this MSI. It's so audable, it gets increased by the case too. But I will get that 2018 RMx then! Can use that for years to come. I just bought one for 123 euros, psu's had a 10% discount at that webshop lucky me!

I saw these went for 109 euros minimum first, now 133 minimum lol

Are you sure it's not the bearing sound of ball bearing fan ? Try stopping the fan with a plastic pen or smth.

I was thinking about that too, but then next to that theres also the buzz. Waiting now for an rm850x 2018 to arrive, returning this one. Let's see how that goes 😱
