I just RMA'd my CPU in my sig. They told me they are sending a brand new retail one either the same or better. Any ideas what they might send me? I mean, do they even sell 3400+'s anymore?? What core? Another clawhammer won't run my two gigs of Ram.

And why wouldnt it run your 2 gigs of RAM??? Because you have 2 sticks? Just set the RAM voltage to 2.7 and it will run 2 gigs

i did set the voltage to 2.7.

no go.

Not that I'm saying it wasn't the CPU, but so far you haven't exactly made it 100% certain. Not that it really matters at this point, since you've already RMAed the CPU...

I was actually more wondering if you'd done things like flash the BIOS, check the voltages to be sure that it isn't the PSU crapping out on you, manually adjusted the timings for the RAM in case the RAM's SPD is off, and you know, general stuff like that. But pushing the RAM to 2.8V (which is still under warranty with most RAM manus) could have been tried too. :)

Those chips are rare, but some jobbers still have them. If they cant get you one, they will have to give you a 3700.

that's exactly what they have shipped to me!! I wonder how much better it will be than my 3400?
