Hi - I've got a small network running Win2k on server and
client PCs, mainly using Office 2000 applications. We have
roaming profiles set up on this, and my problem is that
whenever a user logs on to a client PC they haven't
previously used they are required to reinstall Office,
even though it has already been installed on all the PCs.
I presume there is something wrong with the way the
profiles are set up, either on the server or the
individual PCs.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

How was Office set up? If you install it on a PC as an administrator, and
select a custom/full install (run *all* programs from computer), and then
let a user with a working roaming profile log in, does it work?

Are you getting any userenv errors in your event logs indicating that the
profiles aren't downloading/uploading correctly?

The PCs were previously running on Win 98 and Office was
installed on all of them then. I've just tried a test of
uninstalling Office and then reinstalling on administrator
account with 'run all from my computer', but I got the
same result when I logged back on with a working profile.

There haven't been any error messages for the profiles,
and aside from this one problem I think they've been
working fine in terms of loading/unloading etc.

Implement Office administrative setup as 'setup /a' on the server, apply
service packs to the installation, share the installation point, and
reinstall Office on the workstations from this point.

Thanks for the reply. My experience with this kind of
thing is pretty limited - please could you describe in a
bit more basic detail what I need to do? Thanks
