It appears to be somewhat hardware compatible with the RPi, and has several advantages over it, such as M.2 for an on-board SSD and eMMC.

I'm running Debian Linux on it.

How is it using the I/O? SPI for hooking up an nRF24 radio? Bit-banging for an irrigation system controller?

As a general purpose computer (without I/O)? Here in the USA you can buy a refurbished icore 5, 4GB, 500GB for under US$100.
