Hello; i've been directed to ask this question here after troubleshooting with a friend of mine.
Essentially we have been trying to power limit my cpu (intel i7 6700k) on my mobo (Asus strix b250f gaming) to reduce heat buildup from cpu intensive games. temperatures went dangerously close to 100°C.

The problem we're finding with this is that after changing the cpu's long and short term wattage in the ai tweaker - internal cpu power management and saving the settings and running intel burn test, HW monitor shows it's still going above our set settings and the temps shoot to 100°C immediately.

We've updated the bios, reset it to default and tried again; both of which still aren't locking the setting in.

Any help is super appreciated as we're stumped on this

Yes, it's a B250f. at the time of buying it i didn't know the difference, but i never intended to overclock anyways

Put simply, if you are having that manner of heat issue it would be due to insufficient airflow/cooling. Beyond that could be possible damage or incorrect settings. Unless you live somewhere that ambient is really high, this isn't normal.

IDK what your system specs are for cooling and case but consider trying to drop the side panel and see if things improve. In addition to that, regular cleaning of dust from the fans and case. I would assume the latter is taken care of with the recent repaste.

What case are you using? Fan configuration? Cooler?

yes, we wanna change the cooling in the long run, but needed a solution for the moment until we can afford a new cooler. i just cleaned all fans with compressed air a couple of days ago aswell.

i use a NZXT H710i Case
not 100% sure on the cooler, but i assume it is a coolermaster masterliquid lite 120 aio
Radiator fan on the back and 3 case fans on the top

I'll try leaving the side panel open for now and see if that helps! Thank you

Okay, so simply leaving the side panel open doesn't do anything to help really.
i was trying to add a power limit to the CPU to help keep lower temperatures for the moment, but i couldn't figure out a way to do that yet. Anybody has any ideas there?
