i have a Strix B350-f Gaming motherboard and im just looking for an upgrade for my cpu right now i have an amd ryzen 5 1400, im looking at two different cpu's trying to figure out what would be the best bang for my buck and compatibility with my current motherboard. im looking at the ryzen 5 5600x and the ryzen 7 3700x

Solution
im not sure the bios version id have to ask him. 3803 1/22/2018
So the r5 5600x will work with the b350-f gaming?
Yes it will....

But if 3803 above is it's current BIOS version you'll have to update it. The current and latest is 6063 so just aim for that. But be sure to read all the notes of the many in-between versions, it's often helpful to update to one or more of those.

It may be over your budget, or maybe not, just don't rule out the 5800X3d if this is for gaming. It is compatible and will work in your board nicely enough.

Also make room for an upgrade to 3600 memory in the future to maximize performance of either of these processors.

Yeah I noticed that. So stair step it up to the correct bios then? Or could you just throw the 6063 on a flash and do it all at once

It's a large span of updates crossing at least two Ryzen generations. I'd think all of the BIOS blocks would be getting updated in which case I'd only think it essential to stair step where update notes say to. But then many prefer doing it. You might also just split the difference and hit only one in each of the major updates.

Alright I’ll have him up the bios it’s looks like 6 or 7 updates I’ll just have him do them all just to be safe. Thank you for your help though much appreciated!
