Gpu goes into pcie-4 or can it go into any pcie? (Rtx 2070 super)

Ssd goes into m2 only if it is m2? Or can non m2 ssd like msata go there as well?

What if you have msata ssd and not m2 ssd? Those go into only the sata slots? Are there even sata slots? I see cables.

Ram has nothing to do with pcie or sata or m2 right? They go into those memory channels, the DIMM slots on the upper left side.

Anything i should know about the slots on b550-f? Like with b450-f installing something that prefers pci4 into a pcie3 would block the pcie4 or not run as well as it should.

  • I have two M.2 nvme sata SSDs. I can plug one in the M.2_1 and the other in the M.2_2 right? Or do i have more than one M.2_1 install spots because it says "3 sockets".
  • As for the gpu, you say that i should only install it in the "first" pcie and not the others. That's the pcie-4 right? Why only that and not the others.

You're advised to put the GPU in PCIeX16_1, "the first one", because that one is connected directly to the CPU and so has the lowest latency data path.

You can plug an NVME in either M2.1 or M2.2. M2.1 is going to have the lowest latency data path because it's connected directly to the CPU. Most people choose that M.2 socket to put the NVME if they...

The GPU goes in the first PCIe slot. Look at GPU on the picture. You can use the other one but don't.

M.2 is the form factor. You can have an M.2 NVMe SATA SSD or M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD. They both can be installed in the M.2. port if they support both. mSata won't work on your board. Not the same connector.

Both your M.2 port support x4 PCIe 3.0 (4.0 on the M.2_1 port) NVMe PCIe SSD and NVMe SATA SSD.

1 x M.2_1 socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support(SATA & PCIe 4.0 x4 mode)
1 x M.2_2 socket 3, with M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 storage devices support (SATA & PCIE 3.0 x 4 mode)

Install your M.2 SSD in M.2_1 on your board. Look at the picture.

You have 6 x SATA 6Gb/s port(s) on your board. SATA SSD in the non M.2 form factor, HDD are plugged in those SATA Port.

Most people choose that M.2 socket to put the NVME if they have a single NVME, or the one the install the OS if they have two NVME's. The OS makes very frequent random data and code reads during operation which means it will probably benefit them most from the lower latency.

All the other PCIe slots, and M2.2, are connected directly to the chipset which has to pass data on to the CPU introducing additional latency. The data path from the chipset to the CPU is only X4 bandwidth which would effectively reduce your GPU's X16 bandwidth to X4. But the data path from an NVME is X4 (at most) so the data throughput from an NVME connected to the chipset (M2.2) wont be affected to any degree.
