Question ROG Strix Z790-H Gaming Wifi Motherboard - No Wifi, LAN Driver Won't Install?

Hi folks,

I recently built a computer with a ROG Strix Z790-H Gaming Wifi motherboard. She came with a WiFi adapter I have screwed into the back.

However, on Windows there is no WiFi working.

I installed a dual boot with Ubuntu and Ubuntu recognized the WiFi immediately, so it is not a hardware issue.

After some research, I determined I would need the LAN Driver (https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-z790-h-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_download/); I loaded this onto a USB, then my new build, and ran the AsusSetup.exe. It opened a window for a split second, then closed immediately. The WiFi is not fixed.

I am at a loss for how to fix this and look forward to any feedback or suggestions.

With gratitude,

The LAN driver is for Ethernet. Directly below that on the Asus page is the Wi-Fi driver. Try that.
Hi there.

Thank you for the info. I did try that one as well. Same thing (I run the AsusSetup and nothing happens).

I will also add my bluetooth is not working and I don't see a driver for that ... ??

My continued thanks to anyone who may assist.

By the way, I feel I should add:

I'm pretty sure the device does not show up in the Device Manager. Perhaps the drivers are not working because of that? Of course, when I reboot into Ubuntu, it works immediately. I am not sure why Windows 11 does not recognize it.
The device will not show up in Device Manager unless it has a driver loaded that communicates with the Windows PnP Manager, from what you've described it is absolutely a driver or Windows issue. Bluetooth is part of your Wi-Fi card, and thus will be included in the Wi-Fi driver.

Try using Install.bat instead of AsusSetup.exe. I think you are supposed to use the latter which probably calls on Install.bat, but let's just try bypassing that altogether and installing the drivers manually.

If that doesn't work, try sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth from an elevated command window. I'm wondering if you somehow have a missing or corrupt bus driver and so Windows doesn't receive the device IDs it needs to automatically install/load the correct drivers like it should.

That would also explain the driver setup application closing since it identified no valid device on the bus and thus won't install a driver for a device that doesn't exist. If I run it on my computer, I get the same thing of prompting UAC then immediately closing. Though, I would think that a missing bus driver would cause other issues since they tend to be generic.

Hello. I have an update. Problem is solved.

I carried my PC into the other room and plugged it into the router via ethernet directly. This allowed me to do a Windows update. As soon as I did that, the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth device showed up and started working!

Thanks anyway for your help.
