Just recently upgraded my gpu and feeling like to try to game at 144hz. I got 2x SLI 980, plenty to run 1440p over 60hz. In most games I play, I sit around 80fps at 4k without overclocking. 1440p around 100~150.

These two monitors are what I am considering, if you know any 144hz better than these two, please recommend. They are both 1440p, 27''.

Overlord Tempest X270OC a S-IPS mostly 96~110hz, contrast 1500:1, no G-sync

Asus ROG Swift a TN 8-bit, 144hz, contrast 1000:1, with G-sync

Which one would you prefer and why?
Anyone can share their experience with G-Sync at high refresh rate

I am considering exactly the same.
It seems that it might be possible to upgrade the X270OC at a later point to support G-sync. I got this answer from Overlord yesterday:

"The Tempest OC will not be shipping until early November. We do expect to have a GSYNC unit sometime early 2015 and offer a kit that can be purchased to install in Tempest units. However, timelines on the GSYNC version are still very much up in the air."

Considering this I might be tempted to go for the X270OC, but I am also very interested in hearing more opinions on this.
Especially because the price of the X270OC will be around 780$ when import taxes and shipping is included (I live in Denmark) so the two displays will cost more or less the same.

That is a great news, I would definitely go for Tempest if they happen to have g-sync upgrade available. I will try to contact them as well, and keep this up to date.

I feel like the ROG Swift is a no-brainer - especially considering the price is roughly the same. Keep in mind that the Tempest will likely cost more overall when you purchase the GSync module down the road.

The ROG Swift offers a higher refresh rate out of the box and has GSync available now. I don't see why it's even a competition?

How much do G-sync upgrades go for? I had my eye on both of them but a big disadvantage for the Swift was that hefty price-tag.

Well, from the response, they have been asked for this question for quite some time. They can't guarantee timeline, I don't think they can offer price commitment.
And btw, 144hz TN isn't the same as 144IPS so they two monitors after all still differ in reality. IPS will still have it's motion blur and response time disadvantage. For me, the color accuracy is worth it, but the point going 144hz is kind of the two cons IPS have.

If this is strictly for gaming performance and overall gaming experience then the ASUS PG278Q ROG Swift http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MSOND8C is and will be the superior monitor.

An IPS panel will only best the Swift in picture quality and not by a lot. The ROG Swift will be better in every other way. If the Tempest were a couple hundred dollars less then it would be worth considering. To be honest, the Tempest doesn't seem much different than the QNIX QX2710 Evolution II http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CAKD6LI which is very similar in most aspects. It's a 27" 1440p IPS panel display that can be overclocked to at least 90Hz. The only difference would be in monitor connectivity and glossy vs. matte screen but there are both options that can be found for the QNIX.

A TN panel doesn't boast the same vibrant color swatch as an IPS panel but honestly, it's so hard to tell. When you're playing a game, you really don't notice at all. I came from 3 IPS panels to 3 Swifts and there's not a feeling of "Wow, this looks to drab" at all. In addition, a TN panel isn't going to ghost like an IPS panel will so the 144hz really shine on a TN panel over an IPS panel.

Fully agree!
