So I updated the Realtek High Definition audio driver on a friend's Win 10 Acer Aspire desktop. The PC originally came with Win 7, but the Win 10 update caused some errors.

So I downloaded the latest driver from the Realtek site (I know, I should have gotten it from the Acer site >.<) and installed it. It seemed to work fine for awhile, but then a blue screen crash happened. It booted back up and seemed to be ok, but I don't want it to happen again.

What would be the best way to go back to the previous Realtek driver? Rolling it back via Device Manager sounds like the best option, but would that work properly being that the driver came from the Realtek site rather than Windows update? System Restore might work if that doesn't, but I'm afraid that that might mess something up.

I just want to get rid of the newer driver and go back to the old one. I'm a little nervous being that it's not my PC and I'm afraid to mess something else up while attempting roll back the driver.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Yes it should be okay to do the Rollback using Device Manager. Another way of rolling it back is to run System Restore. :)

Here's how to run System Restore: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ph/windows-10/windows-10-recovery-options

If all these will not work uninstall/reinstall the Sound card driver that may help as well.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Sound driver.
- Once done, reboot your PC and it should reinstall the driver automatically.
- After the reboot do observe your PC again and see if you'll still get BSOD's.
