Morning All,

Any ideas on how you can 'enable forwarders' or serve the purpose someway as
this is a root dns server? option is disabled being the first domain in the
forest...

I need to be able to forward queries on to another dns server so that the
likes of yahoo.com, hotmail.com can be resolved outside the domain with the
help of a proxy (which I have already installed).

No, it's disabled because you have a "DNS root zone" rather than
because it is on the first DNS or Domain in the forest.

You must "delete" the "root" DNS zone to use forwarders on THAT
DNS server (set). If you really need the root zone you may not want
to do that but almost no one really needs it.

Do you have multiple "Trees" in your domain? if not, you can foward
all of your other DNS servers to the parent domain, and by deleting
the "root zone" (".") it can forward to the Internet etc.

Right. If you have a "bushy forest" with lots of trees you have to
work this out another way, but otherwise just delete that pesky "."
domain.

Just to add, if he's using Proxy or ISA with the Web caching service to take
care of web access, then in this scenario, we can just keep the root dot
zone and have ISA or Proxy as a stand alone resolving externally. Otherwise,
then we need to take that out so Proxy/ISA can resolve externally in leiu of
the clients.
