is it just incompatible or what because it "works" but its at least 3x slower than it is in windows i tried to install the drivers but it didn't work so are there ways to get newer drivers or fix this issue

This chip is rt3062. The opensource drivers maybe not so good.... You can get the proprietery driver from mediatek (formely railink) here:
http://mediatek.com/en/downloads/

You will need to blacklist the rt2800pci driver/module, compile this new driver/module ffrom the source files then load the new driver/module.

It is a somewhat technical/complicated procedure if you are not familiar with linux tools.

In the future I suggest buying wifi chips that use Atheros chips and not mediatek (which are crap on linux)

so would you know how to do this? i didnt buy the adapter to work with linix but i might actually use it if i could connect to the internet

"Anyone" - Compiling a driver for Linux (given sources) is not a rocket science, neither for novices. If you don't know how to do it (or don't want to find out how to do it), then go to Amazon and get a known-to-work-with-Linux WiFi adapter.
