Rosewill ROCC-13001 AIOLOS PLUS or COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO

Hey Everyone,

I have a quick question for everyone. I'm looking at getting a new rig and I can't decide between CPU Coolers. It's a toss up between the Rosewill ROCC-13001 AIOLOS PLUS 120mm Long Life Sleeve CPU Cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200071) or the COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 EVO (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099). I've heard that both are very good but I'm not sure which one to choose. I'm going to be using it with an i5-4670k and would like to be able to overclock it a decent amount. I already have a pretty airflow friendly case setup but I'm also doing SLI as well. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The Cooler Master 212 EVO would be my recommendation. Although I can not find a review of the AIOLUS Plus, just the original. So the performance is unknown, however- 212 for its price is phenomenal.

Do you think that the 212 EVO will be sufficient if I should say aim for overclocking my i5-4670k to around 4.0ghz? I'm new to overclocking so I'm trying to get a reasonable idea. I'm using the ASUS Z87-Pro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131979) as my motherboard by the way, and 16GB Corsair Vengeance LP (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233280) as the RAM. Thanks.

It should be enough-depends on how your CPU performs and Ambient Temperature.

But I'm not too happy with the RAM honestly.
For two reasons, you don't need 16gb of RAM for gaming, just 8. And 4x4GB (especially on Intel) works better than 2x8. (Larger sticks don't perform as well)
And GSkill RAM overclock better-and that RAM is actually 1333 CAS 9. (Rated 1600 CAS 10)

Cheaper than the ones you choose. 1866 Cas 9. 4x4GB.

That is definitely helpful. Unfortunately I have already ordered the RAM at this point so I think it's a bit too late. I know that gaming won't have a huge affect with the 16GB of RAM but I really would hate to run into issues down the road from 8GB not being enough, and the only real increment increase for RAM after 8GB is 16GB. I'd like to have options to run web browsers, Steam, etc. while in the game so I can quickly access tutorials, etc. I'm hoping that I didn't just wast $60 on something that I won't even be able to use :-(.

But I would honestly Return them ASAP, they are not good-and definitely not worth the money. It'll only cost 3 dollars to ship back and you save ~30 dollars.
And for gaming you don't use more than 8gb. But I use alot of video rendering and music stuff so i run into 10+GB at times. But if I let my computer run 3 days on end, just browsing and gaming, (And listen to music :lol, Windows 8 caches pretty much everything so I start using around 6gb of RAM without playing anything. So keep that in mind if you leave all features on.

Are you sure about this?? I've always had the impression that it was better to work out the timing differences between chips on the modules themselves as opposed to having the IMC cope with minor variations.

In my experience, the latency and performance of RAM was worsened by running 2 8BG sticks vs 4 4GB sticks. It could have been coincidence. But latency, read, write...etc tests were scored in performance test, and the difference was minor.
And yes, Timings and Frequency make a difference. However running CAS 9 1600, and CAS10 1866:1866 is slightly better performing. (Just an example)
I can provide the chart if you'd like.

I no longer have the scores of 4x4GB though-and I have an AMD CPU so my scores are worse when compared to Intel.
