You should always run AV-software (except when playing BF - causes lag).
I even think you can get one of the commercial packages for free at the
moment, can't remember the name. Other Norton, McAfee are fine. I think
F-secure is just as good and a bit cheaper, but not sure.

AVG anti-virus from www.grissoft.com free for home use and very good.
also Adaware 6 from www.lavasoft.com is a very good spyware scanner,
likewise Spybot S&D, bit of an overlap but they work well together.

Trojans can send info from your computer to a source, or can take over your
computer and make it act 'funny' best to scan fully to make sure, get a
specific trojan scanner

YOU DONT NEED TO OPEN AN ATTATCHMENT!!

Viruses can be activated just by being received!! Viruses can be embedded in
websites (for example TROJANS!!) and now even in jpg images, so please do
this newsgroup a favour, and dont have a go at people like that, when they
obviously know just a LITTLE bit more about viruses than you!!!
