Roughly how much should i spend on parts

i was wondering if people could give a rough percentage that goes into each part for a computer roughly 500-600 pounds, so would you spend 10%, 15%, 20% on a cpu for example. this is my first build so i am trying to get a rough idea on where to put money.

At current exchange rate - 600.00 GBP = 961.839 USD. For that kind of budget you could get a really solid system. Depending on the use though that will determine where the money goes. If it's gaming - the GPU. If it's rendering / CS5 - then you want a strong CPU.
