Router and Modem help at&t

I have an at&t router/modem hybrid set up already. The problem is that any device hooked up as wireless will randomly make the modem disconnect from the internet (usually happens when changing websites). This does not happen to the ethernet devices, and every wireless device works just fine on other wifi networks. This makes me believe something is wrong with the modem/router.

I was thinking about buying a cheap router, which all the wireless devices are connected to, and then the router is connected via ethernet to the at&t modem/router. Will this work?

I'm not buying a new at&t modem because it costs like 100 bucks. A router will cost 25. I checked for updates on the drivers and it says it's up to date. If there is a way to fix this without a router, that would be great, but I'm willing to buy a router if this works of course.

You can if you like disable the wireless on the ATT and use another "router". I would run this device as a AP though to make things a little easier.

Not sure why a wireless session would ever disconnect the internet but your plan may make the issue go away if it truely is some bug in the modem. I would check to see if there are firmware upgrades for the modem first you would think they would have fixed a bug like that.
If you have an AT&T hybrid setup, my guess is that the device came from AT&T and they own the device.

I would call them and walk them through your issue. They are usually willing to help or replace a bad device if they own it.
