I replaced my router that was supplied by Charter because it was really going downhill. However I noticed that the router had a coaxial cable plugged into it but no Ethernet cord to plug into the WAN connection from the modem. I didn't think much of it so i unplugged everything from the router and plugged everything back in to the new one which linked to the modem by Ethernet cord and had no coaxial cable inputs.

The computer was showing the yellow triangle so i plugged the computer straight into the modem. However, my computer was still offline with an endless blue circle where the triangle was. So i plugged back in the old router and plugged in everything the way it originally was. The Internet was working.

Then I turned off the router and plugged the computer Ethernet cord into the modem again and there was no internet. Overall I'm really confused on what is happening because from everything I've read on the internet the modem should work regardless of the router.

The old router: P/N: ddw2602. Model: U10C037
Modem number: P/N: TM02AE1G6. Model: TM602A/110
ISP: Charter Spectrum

Solution
you have to power cycle the modem and give it a couple of minutes to associate it with the new device.

plug in you new router into the modem, power cycle the modem and wait 2 minutes
or plug in your PC into the modem, power cycle the modem, and wait 2 minutes

Solution
Yes it does take some time for the devices to all "handshake" and start communicating.

However I am not sure about your connections: is the following correct?

Coax -------->Modem [Ethernet port] ------ethernet cable -------->[WAN Port] New Router [LAN Port] ------ethernet cable ----> [ethernet port] PC

Did you make any changes to your PC wired network adapter so it would request an IP address from the new router via DHCP. If not the adapter may be waiting on the modem or, more likely, the old router to receive an IP address.

Do you have the user guide/manuals for the modem and router? What are the makes and models?

Can you run "ipconfig /all" from the command prompt and post the results?
