Recently my grandmother unknowingly unplugged the power strip with the my wireless router and modem on it. We still get internet through the modem, but I'm having a hell of a time getting the router back and working. I know enough about getting them started but troubleshooting problems is something else. Anyway when ever I try the setup wizard it tells me that I have a static IP address but we are with comcast and they "don't" do static for residents. So my question is, is the router *busted* or did one of the comcast techs make my ip static?
I have a Netgear N300 WNR3500L router and a Motorola SURFboard SB5101U with windows vista
and thanks

Someone could have set the computers with static IPs. You can just flip them back to DHCP. You can also reset the router to factory defaults, should be a button you can hit on the router for that. Should set the IP to 192.168.1.1 for almost all routers, then you can just connect to the IP and see if it's connecting to the modem though the WAN port properly.

I have reset the router to the factory settings, called Comcast multiple times telling them I have a static. And apparently they don't have the power to give me a static ip. Is there a way I can change it on my end?

Static IP has to be given by ISP only. Do a check on your computer as well, whether it got set to static ip or still it has the DHCP. You may check it with the command ncpa.cpl. But I am sure as its been suggested above, if you set the router to the factory default, it should automatically pick up the DHCP, not static any more........................
