Hey, I'm new here and I'm mediocre when it comes to a router, I have a d-link Dir-300, and a cable connection of 100mbps, when I connect the cable directly to pc and run a speedtest.net for example I get pretty close to the advertised speed that the ISP gave me of 100mbps, so in speedtest I get @95mbps. I tried to set it up and looked at guides and user manual for this router to set it up as best I can but even so when I disable wireless and connect only my pc to the router I get a speed which is about half: 40-44 mbps of the speed that I have when I have the internet cable plugged in directly to my pc. The reason this bothers me is that I leave with a friend and we will be sharing this connection, we are both mediocre gamers and sometimes the lag kicks in pretty hard. This ISP is pretty popular in my country, got it at my parents house and at the place I previeously stayed at and never had those kind of problems so I feel that this router is not configured well or it has some problems, can anyone be kind enough to help me? thx in advance

Conflicting statements. Full speed or 1/2 speed when wired?
Possibly the second one, you mean wireless. not wired?

Sorry for that confusion, I mean, the only thing that is connected to my router in the second statement is the pc thru wire. I disabled the wireless to not have anyone connected so that I can see the maximum speed.

Sorry Im not that good at english, I am not using wireless, I am using cable, I'll re-explain: i got: 1 internet cable, 1 pc and 1 router. When I connect the internet cable to the pc directly I get the speed that I should get. When I connect the internet cable to the router and the router to the pc via a internet cable I get half the speed. No other pc's connected to the router, I even disabled wireless on it so noone would interfeere with what I was trying to test.

When I connect without router I get the speed that I should get, @100mbps when I connect only my pc to the router via cable I get @ half the speed.

Edit:
Nvm problem solved, just read its a 54mbit router so it can't take more than that apparently.

Well yea I read that on d-link too that it has 100mbps but on cnet, here http://www.cnet.com/products/d-link-wireless-g-router-dir-300/specs/ they only talk about 54mbit so im now really confused

Edit: for the comment above, I not only reset a gazilion times today, I factory reset it a couple times and I really looked at the manual and guides on how to set it properly and what does every checkbox setting do before I checked or unchecked it, if you are familiar with router settings I can write here all the settings that the router has and what I have and don't have enabled.

Right. But what is the overall connection and wiring situation?
Is there a single RJ45 port in the residence? Or one in each room?

If you used a regular switch instead of that router would it work better?
From that wall RJ45 port...what does that connect to on the other end?

ok so there is only 1 internet cable comming into the house from a box ouside that is the isp's. It's thru PPPoE so can't use a switch. basicly got 1 internet cable that comes into the router and me and my roomate each have a cable that's comming from the router into our rooms.

here is a pic of the system check of the router's connections right now: http://i.imgur.com/VRC2dSQ.png

what is half or full duplex? i read that is single or double way that data can travel, can this be the problem?

Full duplex.
Connect the wall cable to LAN 1 and see what happens.

this is what happend, i get what you are trying to tell me but i need the wall cable to connect to the "internet" port on the router, dont i? it won't work in lan, and i searched for how to force that to be full duplex but i couldnt find a setting http://imgur.com/Hm2qThf

edit: after a couple tricky settings its full duplex now but I ran speedtest again and my speed its still @40-44 mbps so still half what it supposed to be when I'm the only one using the connection
