Router Dir-601 Rev 1a Need Help

Hello.
I have Dir-601 rev 1a router and I can not reset it to default settings, by that I mean I can not reset the password. I did google the problem prior to asking here and I tried the following:

1.Holding reset for 5-10-15 and even 30 seconds, power on, power off and combination thereof.
2. I tried all the listed default passwords.

What could be wrong with the router? Any way to reset it without RMA/buying a new one? I even took it apart, searching for the battery to take out .

I had a similar problem but with a DIR-825 last weekend. I finally reset it by turning it on WHILE having the reset button pressed. So I basically impaled the router on a pen and then turned the power on.
