Router dosent work in my bedroom?

Hi all, as of currently I am using one of those adapter things that plug into my wall, then plug into my computer via ethernet, and the second piece plugs into the wall and into my router for that sort of makeshift wired internet. However, I want to get more into streaming and what not, and i'm quite certain i'm not getting my full upload/download speed that I should be getting. The laptop in my hosuehold gets higher up/down speed via wifi when next to the router. I have an ethernet port in my room and the other thing which sort of looking like a screw in type thing, not sure of the name, nonetheless the router has to be plugged into that as well. I get internet connection but when I plug my ethernet cord from the router to my computer it dosent connect, I think its that threaded outlet thing that's causing the error but im not sure, any suggestions on what to do or how to fix it?

A threaded outlet makes me a think of a Coaxial outlet that a Cable connection would come through (i.e. cable internet/tv) That has to be wired properly to whatever cable company you have going into your house, you could call them up and ask them to check it out. You may have had a rodent chew the line inside your wall, or when you got your cable installed they did their own hook deal.

If it's an actual ethernet port like on your computer coming out of your wall, that also needs to be connected by wire to where ever your router is, and each port in the house will need to it's own port on the back of the router/switch.

My friend had this problem actually, the plug is probably not wired. My friend had a brand new build a few months ago and it wouldnt connect to the internet when plugged into the outlet in his room. Looks like that is what's happening here.

@Deniedstingray Just checked to make sure there were wires back there connecting to it and there were.

The picture is definitely a coax outlet for a TV antenna or TV cable box. It sounds like you're using a powerline setup. The speed on these is dependent on the quality of the house wiring, if the ethernet signal is trying to pass thru any AFCI breakers in the main electrical box and the standard that the powerline adaptors are using. Old ones may be rated for a max thru put of 200Mbps, while new ones may support 1Gbps max. What brand and model of powerline adaptors are you using? What's the age of the house wiring?

That is pretty new. I think you should call your isp and see what you can work out. Thats what my friend ending up doing.
