Router + modem? 3words

Hey everyone,

I'm having some trouble with my 2.4GHz network since my wireless headset uses 2.4GHz so that makes the headset turns off itself and it's really annoying.

Anyway, I've tried changing channels but didn't work. When I disabled the 2.4GHz network (I left the 5GHz active) the issue disappeared so I assume that's the problem.

What I want to know is that if I need to "deactivate" the modem in order to use the router, because when I disabled the 2.4GHz network (called PSft) the network was still active. Is that the modem wireless network working? (It's a modem WiFi).

You confuse a few things here. For your network to work you need a modem, a router and if you need WiFI you will also need a WiFi-Router. All those things can be (and nowadays most of the times are) combined in one device. Because you are talking about router and modem I guess that you have a ISP-supplied modem-router combination and one extra WiFI-Router. (Let us know whats going in your network)

Now, you can not disable the modem or anything and you would need at least one router. There are many options to go from here but all those depend on what you got running in your network.

Yeah well that's what I tried to explain hahaha.

What I have is, as you said, a ISP-supplied modem-router and a Linksys router.

I just wanted to know why the network is still active if I disable it from the Linksys control panel. Is the modem-router network or is it that the control panel isn't disabling the network?

You can disable the WiFI and such and the network will still work over cable. Basically you could do what you want over WiFi as this will not disturb the cable network.

I meant the WiFi network was still active even if I disable it from the Linksys control panel. I notice that over my phone.

Then maybe the Linksys was set up as repeater for the WiFi of the ISP-Router. Simply unplug one of the devices and see when the WiFi is going down. If you unplug the Linksys and the WiFi goes down then the WiFi is coming from the Linksys. If the WiFi goes down when you unplug the ISP-Router then its coming from there.

Even though, is there any "issue"? I mean when the Linksys is active, is it working fine? Or the WiFi network is still from the ISP-router?
