Happy new year good peoples of Internets!!!

I have comcast in my house i got a deal for 150/150. When i ordered my service i opted-out of getting their modem, simply because i did not want to pay extra monthly. I ended up getting pretty cheap Netgear N300 modem/WIFI router in one. I was pretty happy with it until i start playing online while my wifey watching Netflix and that is when i start noticing ping problems and network lag. I play over WiFi since i cant get hardline where PC is. That is when i start looking in to getting something more powerful, something that can handle the load of multiple devises. Question came up do i want to get better WiFi router and just use my N300 as modem or get something bigger and better all in one. Found some posts here and loaded up on some info. Here is my dilemma:
my house is 1500sq ft, wood build house.. Modem/router is upstairs, pc is downstairs in the same corner as router. I can get Netgear Nighthawk x6 for $100 used right now. Should i do that or get WiFi router/modem in one?

As long as you can get 150mbps on wired on your current modem/router it will work fine as just a modem. No need to spend money to buy another modem.

A different wifi router may not make any difference if the problem is your wife is also on wifi. There is no magic router that solves the problems of wifi device interfering with each other. Wifi is 1/2 duplex with no central control of the end devices so you always risk data collisions.

The only option would be to run 1 device on 2.4g and 5g. This assumes that your problem is not interference from a neighbor.

Thank you guys. N300 does not have QoS. But I believe nighthawk does. I'll double check that.
What wifi antenna would you guys suggest for my PC in case of that also needs to be upgraded?

I see I though maybe you had a PCIE internal card. Upgrading the antenna tends not do a real lot. The radios and the antenna db gain are optimized for the pair. You could put larger antenna on but the actual increase is hard to say. Technically it is illegal to do it in most cases if you exceed the output limits.
