Router - one specific port runs at 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps

Hello,

As the title says, I have a problem with my router regarding one LAN port.

I realized that my downloads are slower than usual ( <10 Mb/s), so I checked the connection speed and it was running at 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps. A few days ago everything was fine.

The problem occurs only on port 1, the rest (2, 3, 4) all work fine with the same cable and all connect at 1Gbps.

Router name: Sapido GR-1733.

What I tried: soft reset (unplug power), hard reset (using the masked button on the back of the router), reinstall same firmware, install newest firmware, even installed old firmware. Nothing fixed it and the problem remains the same.
I want to add that there are no signs of wear on the port pins and the cable stays in firmly.

I don't know what to do anymore and I'd really appreciate help regarding this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Buying a gigabit switch and using just one port on the router is your best bet.

You could examine the 8 wires on that port and see if you can see any bent ones. You would probably have difficulty fixing that. Hence my recommendation to just buy a switch and only use a single uplink to the router.
Even if the port is at 100, it will not cause any issues with downloads, 100 is very likely still double or more your actual download speed you get from the ISP if you have a normal speed available to many people, 100MB + speeds are pretty rare in the US at least.

Try a different cable, even if the same cable was OK on the other ports you should totally rule that out with a different cable. It may just be a bad port.

This is what I get from Speedtest on the good ports:

And this is what I get on the bad one:

The Internet is cheap where I live (~15$ for 1Gbps speed). There's not problem to use another port for the time being, but sometimes I have friends over which leaves one of us behind with the downloads (whether is updates or just downloading new games).

I already tried different cables, same thing: port 1 always 100Mbps, the rest always 1Gbps. I find it weird for a port to "partially break".

I checked it again, all the wires are good, no sign of bending.

I think that will be the best solution, to buy a switch. Although I'll wait a bit more to see, maybe someone had this issue before and can say if it's a hardware failure or it can be fixed easily.

I guess that settles it then, I'll just get a gigabit switch and forget about the faulty port. I just hope it won't "spread" to the other ports =)

Worst case I save up for a new router.

Thanks for your answers !
