Hi guys,

Please advise what to do before I spend my money in router.

I have a modem router wifi that is on the ground floor of our building. 3 ethernet cables go to each floor, where 3 people live. I am in the second and wifi is weak.

So I took this cable and connect it to a very old wifi router (netgear g54 wgr614v10) which is 10/100 and 54 mbps wifi.

So, with my smartphone I test the wifi in the ground floor, next to the cable modem and I see speed of 150-200 mbps. I rush to my house 30 seconds later and test my wifi router. It cant exceed the 10-20mbps . I test the ethernet connection from the ps4 and I see variations of speed 30 to 70 mbps.

So is my router the culprit for the slow speeds? Anything else I can test?

Solution
54 mbps WIFI sounds like 802.11G, and 20 mbps actual speed is on the low side but within range. So all that mumbo-jumbo means YOU NEED A BETTER MORE MODERN ROUTER.
