Hello,
My Linksys router stopped working. Resetting it didn't restore it. I bought a new Linksys E4200 router and configured it to the same settings as my old router. However, now I can't access certain website like Hotmail, Facebook, a weather site and others. But I can connect to most other websites, stream video, etc. Any suggestions why I can't connect to Hotmail, Facebook, etc???? I have 4 computers (3 wired, 1 wireless) connected through the router and they all do the same thing. Thanks.

Hi OkiJBY,

Check as while configuring you haven't done any weird setting such as MAC address filtering or parental control. Check with other browsers (IE, Firefox, Google Chrome etc). The basic set up should resolve this issue......................

I reset the router to factory default and set it up as PPPoE. It connects to the Internet with no problem. Parental control is turned off, no MAC filtering, no port blocking, no port forwarding, no QoS. It's a basic setup. The router firewalls are on but the problem still exists if I turn them off. I rebooted both the fiber modem and router.

Some websites load with no problems. My Vonage and home VOIP phones work. I can stream video. However, some sites refuse to load. The browser won't freeze but status is in a constant loading state.

I tried Google Chrome with better results but still with issues. I can login into Facebook and Hotmail but get a text version of the website. No graphics or page formatting. I still can't get in to some websites.

Next I'm going to connect my pc directly to the modem to see if the problem still exists. I have an old router that I can try also.

I tried the old router and even though the status showed it was connected to the modem, I couldn't bring up any websites. I then connected my PC directly to the fiber modem and it worked great. I had none of the issues that I experienced going through the router. I'm going to try to exchange the router. I'm hoping it is a bad router and not an interface compatibility issue with the fiber modem.

If you're running windows, open a command prompt and type:

ping -n 10 www.facebook.com

and see if it is reporting any packet loss. If it works fine when connected directly to your modem, but not through the router, then the router is the cause of the problem.

Problem resolved. I bought a Netgear N600 router. I went to the BX and exchanged my Cisco Linksys E4200 with another E4200. I had the identical problem as the first router. I bought the Netgear N600 and configured it the same as the Linksys. No problems. I don't why certain websites didn't open Linksys but my network seems be even faster now compared to when I was using my old Linksys 120N before it went bad. The problem now is trying to get my $170 back for the N4200.
