Router Slower than it should be

I recently got a new D-link router that has 300+450 Mbps, and hooked it up to my rogers modem that gives off 250 Mbps Down and 20 Up. But after hooking my PC up directly to my router, I did a speed test on speedtest.net and only got about 90 Mbps down and 22 Up. Before rogers make my router/modem into only a modem, I connected my PC to it directly and got 200Mbps, but after going through my router, it drops. Can anyone tell me why?

What router? 300+450 routers are kind of old and may be low end.

Sounds about right if you're connecting via 2.4ghz wireless. About 90Mb/s down and the range on the device is a bit poor. But it's only $90, very cheap.

Can you recommend any for around $100 thats better than what i have?
