Hey guys, I'm currently in the process of moving into a friends bungalow, the main house will have an internet connection and i was interested in getting an Ethernet cable run from their modem to the bungalow, I have bought the asus RT-N56U wifi router and would like to setup my own wifi network in my bungelow - I plan on running a few mobile remote apps that allow me to control my NAS unit, TV, Media Player & computer remotely so its essential i have a stable wifi connection. I plan on running all these for-mentioned devices via tethering (via Ethernet) to my router. However I don't fully understand WAN to LAN v LAN to LAN options. What do you think the best solution would be here?

Thanks Guys 😀

Pretty simple actually. Just connect your router's WAN to their router's LAN. And make sure you use a different network (e.g., if they're using 192.168.1.x, perhaps make yours 10.0.0.x).

As far as remote apps, I recommend you have them assign you a static IP from their network for your WAN. Then have them place that same IP in their DMZ. Now any traffic that's otherwise blocked by their router’s firewall will simply be passed to your router's firewall where you can decide whether to continue blocking it or perhaps port forward it.

Just beware. Some remote apps *may* have issues w/ the fact that you’re now double NAT’d (iow, behind two NAT routers).
