MAC filtering, is generally a white list. But unless you are trying to keep your kids friends off, or not let them use their iPad, you really get no significant security benefit.

  • ■ Using WPA2 encryption, a unique, good quality password (12 - 15 characters, upper, lower, numbers, special characters -- at least 2 from each group)
    ■ Changing the router admin password (same rules as above)
    ■ Disabling WPS on the router
    ■ Disabling remote administration and WIFI administration (if possible)
    ■ Changing WIFI and admin password periodically (at least once / year)
Those are the things which will provide the best WIFI security.
this may sound dumb but i just want to make sure i understand, because i tried that earlier (I thought) and it didn't work. I'm at work now but will be able to test later on today. So you're saying that I don't need to worry about the actual internet signal in the house, right? I just need to make sure the router h as power, power it on, and then connect an ethernet cord from the router into my laptop. then attempt the same IP address (which I usually do), and the router login page should arise? i tried that earlier and it failed. but still, your second sentence confuses me. how do I log into the router when i'm wired? still using a regular internet browser, and the IP address for belkin routers? i'm confused ....

sorry I tried to reply but accidentally posted it in an "answer"

Oh and just to clarify - I'm not using blacklisting, I'm using WHITElisting - that means that only certain mac addresses are allowed. (not disallowed). but i messed up the mac addresses in the router settings to non-existent m ac addresses , which i don't remember what they were. therefore, the only ones the router will allow now, are non-existent (and unknown) mac addresses.

but surely there is a way to connect to the router to change that in the first place ???? how do i do a factory reset?
