When I charge my laptop nothing happens. My laptop works only when directly charging from the wall. When I turn on my computer it loads straight to a screen before BIOS that says "*** RTC Battery Is Low ****" A while back I replaced my damaged Hard Drive and I am worried I may have damaged some internal parts. I also noticed a small plastic connector to my battery is broken off on the side where the metal prongs meet but I don't see how that could effect anything. What is a RTC battery and how can I fix it? Thank you in advance

Solution
There is a motherboard battery that is losing its ability to charge or retain a charge. This is a differnet battery than the one that provides power to your laptop. They were typically known as "watch batteries" for some time. They are cheap but getting to the location for replacement can be a PIA. See if you can, find a youtube video showing a CMOS/BIOS battery replacement for your specific model laptop. This will show you the difficulty and tools involved in changing it yourself, if you feel up to it.

RTC=Real Time Clock.

Basically the RTC Battery (CMOS battery) is a watch battery inside computers which will drain slowly overtime, some quicker than other's and it sounds like it needs to be replaced soon. Typically it is a CR2032 battery (check your laptop's service manual) which you can replace by opening the laptop. The batteries are pretty cheap (few dollars). If it doesn't get replaced and it dies, basically your BIOS's clock will be out of sync and if your laptop loses all power the BIOS will revert to defaults (if you have changed anything in the BIOS then you will need to set it back)
Not a huge deal but a pain, generally Windows will resync the time with the internet at regular intervals so you can still operate without it.
