Question RTSP streaming through VLC

Hey guys we have an issue that we cant seem to resolve. We are trying to get an IP camera to stream RTSP through VLC. Our end goal is to have video or images streamed through VLC instead of having to use the browser. Any help would be appreciated!! Edit we are to the point where it is asking for a username and password but all combinations we try say they are invalid.

You took the browser adress and put it into VLC...and what happened?

We put the correct browser address into VLC but now its asking for user and password for authentication but all of our user and password combinations do not work even though we know they are correct.

Are you suing this format rtsp://IPADDRESS: PORTNUMBER??

That is correct. We are using the same format but we are running into a wall with authentication on VLC

Make sure that port forwarding is set up correctly,this might not be possible with some routers or ISPs.

All ports are setup correctly and even double checked to make sure. It is just not authenticating through VLC. We have tried multiple user and password combinations.
