[SOLVED] RTX 2060 Super or RX 5700XT

I posted in the systems forum about a strange crashing when playing games. Advice largely surrounded possible GPU issues. Lo-and-behold it does appear that my 1070 is on it's way out.
I bought it about a year ago from a guy at work (it's not an ex mining card), in total it's nearly 3 years old so warranty is out.

So I need to think about replacing it. I don't want to spend masses and so was looking at around the £450 mark and can get either a RTX 2060 Super or a RX 5700XT both are MSI cards.

Which should I go for and why?

I play mainly Wildlands and The Division 2, but occasionally play PUBG and CSGO, also looking at COD Modern Warfare in the near future. 1080p at 144hz is my target resolution.

2060S is about same as rx5700xt, but it has ray tracing :O
both are faster than 1070

No, the 5700XT outperforms the 2060S in practically every game. They cost about the same but a decent 5700XT model is on par with the 2070S performance-wise. With your budget, I'd either get a 5700XT Red Devil or Sapphire Nitro+.

Just make sure you have the power supply.

Im surprised the 1070 is dieing so soon. My 7970 is 7 years old and only recently bit the dust.

Therein lies my concern, I should have posted system specs, my current PSU is an EVGA G3 550W Gold but I don't think that will do the job and so add another £100 to the price.

I have no idea what's caused the 1070 to fail but clean install of both drivers and OS is yielding the same problem when gaming.
CPU has been returned to stock speeds so not the OC that's doing it.

Memory? Recently went from 16Gb Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz to 16Gb Corsair RGB Pro 3200MHz, that's been the only real change.

Ok, so I have opted for a Sapphire Pulse RX 5700XT, I got it reduced to £399 which I though seemed reasonable considering I need to buy a new PSU to support the bloody thing!
Toss up between EVGA G3 650W and the Seasonic Focus Gold 650W, both are £95 on Amazon.

I can always sell on the 550W and recoup some of the cost.

Thanks. I suppose I can always see how it goes. Next day delivery if I need one.

The Pulse seems like a decent card. I don't have the case space for the Nitro or any 3 fan card (In Win 301 with 1 x 120mm fans mounted to the front). I looked at the MSI Mech and Gaming X but couldn't see any discernible difference spec wise although the MSI cards were £429 and £449 respectively, so saved some cash at £399.

Yeah your current psu should have plenty of headroom with them specs + 5700XT.

Card should arrive Friday so will see how I go with it.
