just upgraded from a GTX 970 to a RTX 2070, but when I power up with new card it says power down and connect the PCIe power cable. the new card seems to be getting some power because it lights up and all 3 fans on it are spinning. I have both cables plugged in it looks the same on both cards and the cables snapped in the same. Any ideas what's happening and what to do?

Solution
Make sure the cables are connected to the PSU if you have a modular unit. Use two separate cables to power the GPU instead of a single one. I would unplug the GPU and use two cables and reinsert the GPU and plug back in. Then it should work.

only have 1 cable that branches off to 2 connectors 1- 8 pin and 1- 6 pin, does this mean im gonna need to upgrade my power supply?

Reset and unplug/ plug everything back in and post back with your results. If no luck then I'd suspect the power supply.

Actually before the first post I removed and tried old card and all was good then I put new one in and got same error shutdown removed cables and tried twice more then put old card back in again and thats the one im using as I type this so ill have to check the type of power supply I have and find out what the rtx 2070 needs. Thanks for the help

What PSU are you using?

just now looked its a 460w and the new card needs at least at least a 550w ! lol I never even thought that I would need a powers supply with more power lol guess that my problem lol thanks again!

Good refurb PSU's. Get a 750W!
