[SOLVED] RTX 2070 SUPER with Z-97A motherboard

Hello,

My 8 year old computer is having issues and I think i have narrowed it down to my 780ti faulting out. I am considering buying a 2070 SUPER to replace the 780ti but I am not sure if my system is compatible. For reference, this is my system info :
Intel Core i7-4770K CPU @ 3.5Ghz
16GB DDR3 RAM
Z-97A motherboard
850W Gold psu
Windows 7 (Yea I know I need to update it still)

Please recommend other gfx card if this one isnt compatible.

yea its compatible,but the cpu is too weak for the 2070 super,i would recommend:
-1060/1060 Ti 6gb
-1070/1070 Ti 8gb
-1080/1080 Ti 8gb
or AMD Radeon equivalent...

2070 would be way ahead of the rest of the system and stay rested most of the time, waiting on the CPU to feed it with data.

That is not correct. The 4770K is still a very strong processor.

Yes it's compatible and their nothing wrong with your processor my 4790K still runs anything I throw at it just fine.

Really the only time you have problems with one of the newer video cards is if you have a old motherboard that can't work with the UEFI BIOS of the card.

The 2070 Super might be a bit of overkill for a 1080p monitor but nothing wrong with that either. If your running a 1440p monitor it's a very good fit.

yeah,but i was just trying to name gpus that have around 0 bottleneck percentage between gpu and cpu.4770k super still has a bit of a bottleneck with 2070 super.

Not really and your not going to match anything and not have a bottleneck somewhere and it can change from the CPU or GPU playing a different game!

He could even be running a 1440p monitor then it would be very well matched.

I would say - given everything else is equal, most newer CPUs will likely yield better results. Even a cheap i3 9100f will beat it (less hyper-threading part). Not to mention power usage and other nice-to-haves.

As to the original question, it should work at least as well and should be better than it was. The good thing is that you can build a brand new system around 2070 later on.

You can also overclock those chips fairly easy to 4.6 / 4.8 or so putting it close to the 9600K area.

That is why I have not upgraded mine as of right now but I do have everything but the processor to upgrade to the 10600K (stock shortage sux) but that is really more to give my 4790K to my son that still has my old 2500K. Most people might be surprised how well the 2500K still runs OC @ 5.0 paired with my old GTX 980.

The PSU shortage is even worse going to put the old Corsair TX 850 V2 (made by Seasonic) in the 4790K build and reuse my Seasonic G series 650 in the new build.

Hi guys, thanks a lot for the feedback ! I ended up getting a 1660 Super instead. I had read on other sites that there might be bottle neck since I do runa 1080p and it might be overkill to get 2070. Also, i did not know if i will be rebuilding a new system around the gfx card anytime soon. the 1660 super is doing great so far and I am enjoying it !
