Question RTX 2080 only ever goes up to 60-70% usage

RTX 2080 usage only goes up to 60% when gaming. fps is low compared to other builds with the same/similar specs

CPU usage normally stays below 50%

System Spec-
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 3.2GHz (overlocked to 3.7Ghz)
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce RTX2080 WINDFORCE 8GB GDDR6
Memory: G.Skill 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 Trident Z RGB 2400MHz
Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix X470-F Gaming AM4 ATX
PSU: eVGA SuperNOVA G1+ 750W Fully Modular 80PLUS Gold Power Supply

I'm running it 1080p
Changing the resolution to 1440p, the GPU usage does increase but fps is still below average of what others get on similar builds

1080 just isn't enough pixels to push the 2080 to 100% usage. Are you comparing numbers from others using the same CPU or random? Could you post the link?

I couldn't find the video again since every search i try to do brings me to a 2700x instead of a 2700. but from what I remember, the video showed the CPU clocked at 3.8Ghz and a 2080, getting about ~20fps more in Far Cry 5

It's very possible they overclocked the 2080 using MSI afterburner or EVGA Precision. Most people aren't going to post videos of "Hey check out my GPU at stock settings" if you know what I mean.

mgallo848 makes a good point. Also, your speed is "only" 2400 Mhz. Many people with a Ryzen, especially a Ryzen 7 2700(X), have it paired with 3200+ MHz.

ColdLava, with that said, you should definitely be getting over 60% usage on your RTX 2080. What game, or games, are you seeing this?

He's right, I didn't even see that.

A little less overclocked CPU
No overclock on the GPU
Slower ddr4 memory

Those 3 things combined are the difference in fps.

ColdLava, with that said, you should definitely be getting over 60% usage on your RTX 2080. What game, or games, are you seeing this?

I'm seeing this in games like Anthem, Far Cry 5, and Destiny
