RTX 2080 or 2080ti for a 1080p 244hz monitor?

I just got a great deal on a 244hz 1 ms 1080p monitor and was looking to upgrade my gpu. My question is would a 2080 be strong enough to take full advantage of the 244hz or would i need to go all out and purchase a 2080 ti?

Depends on the game, a lot of the newest AAA games you won't get 244 FPS in the 1st place even at 1080P no matter what GPU you have.

244 Hz is really nothing more than marketing at this point.

The good G-SYNC 165 Hz gaming monitors will handle anything currently as anything above 165 FPS they automatically switch to adaptive sync anyway.


You are going to playing at 1080P so I wouldn't go over a RTX 2080 as I doubt any CPU can keep up with an RTX 2080Ti at 1080P currently anyway.

huhdoufas I cannot tell you whether your CPU will have enough available resources to handle 244 FPS. But as for your GPU, I recommend that you watch game-play videos on YouTube with both the RTX 2080 and 2080 Ti, at 4K resolution. Why 4K? Because 4K at 60 FPS, is the same amount of pixels as 1080p at 240 FPS. If a specific graphics card can handle 4K @ 60FPS, then it'll also handle 1080p @ 240 (~244) FPS. Please keep in mind that this same inverse ratio of resolution vs FPS, does not apply to CPU utilization during game-play.

In most newer games the CPU will bottleneck at very high frame rates. They gpu could do faster but the CPU would prevent that. Even a 9700k. But you should reach at least 144fps in most games, which is so damn smooth anyway...

Technically a RTX 2070 or 2060 will do the job, since the more expensive cards get held back by the processor in 1080p. RTX 2080 and 2089Ti are basically pointless in 1080p

I won't recommend you to get a GPU higher than RTX 2080. RTX 2080ti will overkill your build. You will get a better an awesome gaming experience with RTX 2080

244 is insanely high, I'm not sure if any card could accomplish that 100% of the time in all games. I would personally get the 2080 as it would be more than enough to get very high refresh rates in 1080. Likely 200+ on average combined with a similar strength CPU/system.

Most games simply won't run at 244fps even with the 2080 Ti. Games that do run that high depend more on the CPU to get high fps.
