Hey there,

I have a performance problem with my hardware and I don't know what is causing it.

Issue
I am struggling to get over 100 FPS while playing the new Modern Warfare 2 in low quality settings.
A friend of mine with almost the same specs gets around 160-180 FPS.
My goal should be a constant 150 FPS.

Specs
OS
- Windows 10 Pro
Motherboard - ASUS H110M-A/M.2
BIOS Version - American Megatrends Inc. 3807, 20.06.2018
CPU - i7-7700 @ 3,60GHz (4 cores, 8 logical processors)
RAM - DDR4-RAM - 8GB 2400MHz Crucial (2x)
GPU - RTX 3070 FE
SSD - 250GB Samsung 850 EVO

Additional information
BIOS is updated today.
GPU driver is updated today.
XMP is disabled, but cant enable.

Feel free to leave any recommendations or questions below.

cpu cores/threads scaling,
graphic details doesnt impact cpu performance as long gpu isnt bottleneck

what cpu your friend has?

I have asked him, will get an answer in 1-2 hours.
If we look at the diagram, shouldnt the FPS be around 130 for my system?
I was having a issue like this in mw1 the problem was i forgot the xmp profile after bios update it is probably your issue 8gb ram is not really good and it being 2400 mhz is the problem i think ask your friend his ram it is probably 3200 or higher

Sorry, its 2x the 8GB RAM. Ive edited my initial post.

I have checked the BIOS configuration and XMP is disabled and its not possible to enable it.

I will ask him about the RAM speed.
But it seems like you still shouldnt get that low i also have 3070 only diffrence is i have 3200mhz ram and ryzen 5600 but i get around 120 fps on extreme 2k there was a problem in first warzone causing lot of people to get extremly low fps including my friend which fixed by changing render worker count or something like that on options file to your cpus core count idk if there is something like that in modern warfare 2 but you can take a look and see hope you can fix the problem

intel isnt impacted by ram speed in games, their ram latency is pretty low
still tho r5 5600 is still much better than i7 7700

But he says he is playing only on low setting i dont think he should be getting that fps on low 1080p on graphic you posted it says around 130 fps for extreme settings for his cpu cores/threads

mw2 doesnt have internal benchmark
picture above is from i9 9900k
it doesnt mean all 4c/8t cpus out here will get 130fps
it pretty much just shows you that its cpu demanding game

i7 7700 vs i9 9900k is like 30% performance difference on single core
he says 100fps, 9900k says 130fps (under 4c/8t), seems to be legit

But he plays on low settings thats why i said he should be getting higher but maybe cpu really impacts that much

So there is nothing I can do without buying a new CPU and therefore a new motherboard right?

Its playable but its a difference in a fast paced game.
I thought there is an easy way to get more FPS but if you say that the reason is the CPU, I will have to think again if its worth an upgrade.
I just dont want to invest another 500 bucks and getting a negative result.

Games are driven by the cpu. Always have been. The cpu pretty much determines fps.
The gpu can either match the pace of the cpu or be slower than it. The gpu is never faster than the cpu, since the cpu always goes before it.

Priorities were backwards here. First, get the fastest cpu you can afford. The gpu can come after.

maybe thats all you can get with that cpu but here is what i meant before "
View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TLeJWfv-9k
" you can try and see the results try to set it both half of your cores and all of your cores this was a real problem in first mw and helped lot of people if it doesnt work then it is all you can get with your cpu

Ok thanks, I will try this. Default setting was half of my cores (2), so I will change this to 4.

Alright, thats some new information for me but Im not that much into hardware.
So you think the performance problem is 100% fixed with a new motherboard and a new CPU?
