Question RTX 3080 Poor Performance - Help!

Hi all,

I have an MSI 3080 SUPRIM X 10GB which compared to other cards seems to be performing really badly.

I've installed the most recent drivers and it's the toggle on the card is on gaming mode. Is there anything obvious I might be missing... (other than PC specs!)

Not sure about temperatures but last time I checked when it was doing it nothing was out of the ordinary or extremely high.

Hi,

Is there anything obvious I might be missing...

Full system specs: [Include psu's make, model, and number of years in use. It's usually oversimplified(Ex: 750w), which isn't enough info.]

Gpu operating temperatures - core, hot spot, and memory, while under load.

Added some specs - not sure about the temps as I say but will monitor and repost when I know a bit more.

It's just odd userbenchmark seems to say it's about 50% of other peoples 3080s performance wise

Without some idea of how the card's behaving normally, can't really say much else.
UBM looks bad, yes, but it doesn't say where, or what the problem is. Same thing when 3D Mark results are posted.

Under heavy load I do get the black screen, fans to full speed crash which needs a reset. I suppose either the PSU or the GPU itself aren't very well?

Do you have a recommended paste / heat pads? I'm sure i've got some 1/2/3mm pads in a drawer somewhere but if not i'll get some in.
Do you know of a site / guide that will show what the pads should be for each location?

Manually forced my fans to 100% and ran the benchmark again. Hot spot now 106.2degC. Is that still high enough to hinder performance? (score did go up to 104% from ~90% but still miles away from the 180% norm

memories are fine, if pads doesnt break during dismantling, then you can keep using them, as for GPU paste, you can use any with high viscosity, arctic mx-6 for example

New paste arrives today and having taken the card apart last night I’ve found the core is at best 60% covered in paste. The rest is bright shiny metal.

ye, thats what happens when paste viscosity is low combined with low mounting pressure, it will just slide away
