I am planning to buy 3060ti, my processor is i7 3930k, will it bottleneck, if so how much? Right now I have gigabyte gtx 980 4gb.

Solution
So do you guys suggest that I should not upgrade anything right now? And wait for some time?
Now is the absolute worst time to buy a gaming GPU. Even GPU's from 2-3 generations ago are selling at a premium due to the 'paper launch' of NVIDIA's and AMD's next generation GPUs. If all you want to do is the GPU then wait until stock catches up with demand (hopefully in around 6 months).
Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You might want to stick to the RTX 2000 series or the lower end RTX cards in the 3000 series. System's that are over 5 generations older than yours will be okay but for your platform, you either need to upgrade the platform or downgrade your expectations on the GPU front. Also, what is the make and model of your PSU and it's age?

Thanks for your answer. My PSU is corsair 650x, around 5 years old. But it's working perfectly right now.

What motherboard do you have?
If you are doing a tiered upgrade, GPU now and then the rest of the system in 2 years or so, it might not be a bad idea.

Hi,yes right now I want to buy GPU only and then after a year or 2, I will upgrade the rest of the things.
My motherboard is: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. P9X79 PRO (LGA2011)
RAM: 16.0GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 799MHz (10-10-10-27)

Do you only have one 16GB RAM stick? If you are able to find 2x8GBs (cheap) that is compatible with your board that would increase your current CPU performance.

Just don't expect a massive increase in performance with the new GPU, especially in CPU intensive games. Most of the time your 3060 Ti will be waiting on the CPU.

@Ash95 has a valid point.
Since GPUs are so hard to come by, and priced at a premium, your $$$ will go further if you upgrade the rest of the system now.
However, the performance bump won't be as good as if you did just the GPU now - tough decision.
A GTX980 isn’t absolutely awful right now.

only case for going for 3060ti, would be you can likely recoup a decent bit of money, on the old gpu right now... £100+ on ebay

Actually I currently don't have a plan to upgrade everything since if I upgrade my process then I will have to get the RAMs and MOTHERBOARD too.

So do you guys suggest that I should not upgrade anything right now? And wait for some time?

On current gpu prices where i am, you should be able to get a B550, 3600X and 16GB 3200mhz ram, for roughly the same price as a 3060ti. That is the route i’d go first personally.

Or stretch to a 5600X if you want to spend a bit more.

As stated above, gpu upgrades are a nightmare at the moment, especially if your gpu is going to be less of an upgrade, due to cpu/ram

A several generations/12 year old i7 is certainly slower than today's newest i3-10100...or R3, giving less than half the FPS of 'normal' gaming rigs.

Might be capable of 60 fps or even 100 FPS in many games (certainly not all), but, that mainboard/CPU/RAM combo should be on the 'upgrade now and give current to Grandma for surfing and recipes' list pretty soon.
