Given that a 6700k, 7700k, and a 3300x are similar in performance, you may not want to go beyond an RTX 3070, unless you think you will do a CPU upgrade, in the not to distance future. The 3070 is expected to be 2080ti like performance.

The 3080 really is a 4k card. The 3070 is going to be great for 1440p and the 3060 likely the best for 1080p.

My guess is the 6700K should be fine if you play at 4K or 1440p with RT on

I have the non-K i7-6700 and a 1080 and am probably going to go with the 3060Ti so I can squeeze a little more life out of my power supply. It's still a substantial upgade. I wouldn't even consider a 3080 with this CPU because of bottleneck issues. As was mentioned before, the i7-6700 and 7700 are about the same performance as a 3300X, so any card that would be bottlenecked by that chip, will also be bottlenecked by ours.
