[SOLVED] RTX3080 PSU Small Print - Is 750w needed for all?

Let me start by saying I never want to skimp on PSU requirements. It’s the one area never to skimp on.

I was looking at the NVidia site for the 3080 and noticed the small print relating to the psu recommendation. It says “Recommendation is made based on PC configured with an Intel Core i9-10900K processor. A lower power rating may work depending on system configuration.” taken from https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/graphics-cards/30-series/rtx-3080/

Seeing as the 10900k is capable of comfortably exceeding 250w and can touch 300w surely this means actually for rigs running a cpu with <150w power requirements actually a good quality 650w is acceptable. Just I’ve seen many posts saying NVidia recommends 750w so you need a 750w psu, however none have pointed out NVidia state this wattage with a 10900k.

Just wondering what people’s thoughts are about the 750w requirement for people with <150w CPU’s.

Yes, like always - overall wattage needed might be lower or higher than the general recommendation, depending on the total wattage of the components. Let's say this gpu may take up to 320 watts with the required 12-pin power connector...If you don't know the exact wattage of the other components, you don't always have to - something like this can help:

Some more watts, like going for 750-850 instead of 650 wouldn't be really bad on the PSU, though. And to buy such a GPU, I guess you are not on a budget at all. If your current PSU is fine, then fine, but if you're buying the PSU now, the extra 50-150 watts may stay there as a little future proof and the PSU maybe 'll run a little...

Also, I don't know what overclocks would do, but in the calculator there are also places to put voltages, MHz, etc.
Also, you can check this, if not having already:
The 10900k is mb just sittin there as a part of a system, that would have no bottlenecks.
At least this is my thoughts. I guess you are actually just asking for some opinions. If you're a Titan here, I guess your knowledge is high enough.
