Hello you guys!

Ill come right to the point since I am sort of in a hurry. I purchased a month ago the gtx 2080 since my.index arrived and wanted to get going. I have two days left until money refund expires. Now, with the current specs is it possible to build in the rtx 3080 withthe cx500M?
Should i go for refund and purchase the rtx3080? Both are equally expensive in Austria
Thanks in advance, every help is highly appreciated. Br phili

Solution
I would not use the old CX500M in any gaming pc. It’s an old design, low quality and has a reputation for failing. I would change that psu ASAP before it kills your 2080. Also NVidia recommended a 650w for the 2080.

RTX 3080 need 2x8 PCIe pin ,750W PSU recommended.

bitfenix formula/whisper gold
Corsair RMx/RMi
EVGA G2
Antec HCG/Earthwatts Gold
Seasonic Focus
...
Those are the most common choices for high en systems. A 650w should do no effort, but for the little price difference go for the recommended 750w. You should change your psu either with the 2080 or the 3080. Depending on your cpu you may want a 750w if it requires 4+4 x2 cpu pins

Thank you very much! And also thanks for the very fast reply!
Do I need to keep something else in mind? Like Motherboard and processor/RAM? Or is it likely that since I anyways can run the 2080 without issues, that the Motherboard and peripheral components are o.k? 😄

If you could run a 2080 without issues, then the 3080 shouldn't be much of an issue.
But depends on your current specs to know if you are getting cpu bottleneck like i am with the 3770 and gtx 1080 :ROFLMAO:

You cannot say a 3080 will be ok if a 2080 was. Ignoring the poor quality of the psu in question NVidia’s spec’s for each card are very different. The 3080 is rated at 320W whereas the 2080 is rated at 225W or 215W depending on FE or reference design.

That's true, i thought it could be a gray labeled unit, but there's no cx500 on the newest psu lineup. Anyway, if he was sure his build could run the rtx2080, why not the rtx3080. But that's why i asked for specs, just to make sure

The 500 and 600 are the old CX range, the 550 & 650 are the new. As I pointed out above there is a 100W (>42%) increase in power requirement for the 3080 so being able to run a 2080 doesn’t mean anything.
