Question Rufus with Ubuntu not working

So for my computer class I have been trying to make a pc boot into Ubuntu but every time I have tried with rufus it won't work. I've tried multiple versions from 3.13-2.7 and none of them work. I've been able to get those same versions to get windows 10 pro to work but I just can't seem to get Ubuntu to work. Is there something I am doing wrong?

If this isn't the correct forum to be posting this to please tell me which one I should post this to. It would be much appreciated.

if your mobo uses UEFI, if it was made in the last 10 years it does, then there are several things to look for to make ubuntu work, you should read through this.

I don't know if my mobo uses UEFI, I think it does but I don't have that option in my BIOS and I can't find anything on the web about it. I have a MSI-770 G45 mobo

That's a very old board so it's definitely MBR/bios only, with no support for UEFI.
What exactly are the steps you take and what is the error you are getting?
You should be following this guide that is using freedos and syslinux to make the usb bootable with any system.
